How to Type in Kannada
English to Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ) typing is possible by using our online Kannada typing app. It converts English to Kannada easily by using pc keyboard or mobile phone. This is with the help of Google free translation. After typing in English, press the keyboard Space or Enter button, so that the English word will be converted into Kannada instantly. All this will happen in real time.
For example: After writing a word Kannada in English and then pressing space will convert your word into ಕನ್ನಡ. After writing each word, pressing space will convert the whole word. The whole sentence will not be converted at once. For Example, On typing “Ninna hesarenu”: will convert to ನಿನ್ನ ಹೆಸರೇನು Font will also change to Kannada
In case there is a spelling mistake, then by pressing the Backspace button, you can select the most appropriate word from the list that will appear and enter it. This makes typing easy and quick.
Kannada Typing Tips
- Type normally using keyboard and make use spacebar after typing each word which will convert text to Kannada and this process is called transliteration. Here Kannada pronounced words are written in English and focus is entirely on the sounds of the language.
- Transliteration process is used for several languages around the world and is different from translation as its dependent upon sound of language.
- While writing you may like to have both English and regional language in final transcript. Use “Ctrl G” command, this switch language as written without making change after pressing “Space” button. Press “Ctrl G” command, again to continue with transliteration.
- After writing, you can copy, print, Gmail your texts with click of button.
- While typing from English to Kannada in desktop mode a drop down list of suggestions will appear when you use Backspace button and from there you can select from one most matching word. While in mobile mode all word suggestion will appear on top horizontal row from where you can select precise word suitable for written text.
About Kannada Language
Kannada is the official language of Indian States of Karnataka. Kannada is a member of Dravidian language family like Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Kannada is mainly spoken by native people of karnataka located in southwestern india. There are well over 44 million native people and 15 million non-native speakers in karnataka.
Kannada has been court language of a number of dynasties and empires of South, Central India and Deccan Plateau. Some of them are Kadamba dynasty, chalukya dynasty, Western Ganga dynasty, Rashtrakuta Empire, Yadava Dynasty or Seunas, Kingdom of Mysore, Hoysala dynasty and the Vijayanagara Empire.
Kannada is also spoken in high majority in neighboring states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, Kerala and Goa and worldwide majorly in United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia.
Kannada developed fully in 5th or 6th century A.D. Old Kannada and PreOld kannada recorded have been found. Many scripts records have been found used during many dynstic rule. Some of them are kadamba script 5thcentury A.D. is earlier form of present day kannada. Adi Ganga script used in 4th or 6th century A.D. almost resembles kadamba script. Badami Chalukyas script used in 6th_7thcentury A.D. Rashtrakutas script used in 8th _ 10thcentury A.D. Likewise many more forms of Kannada script developed different dynasty rule.
Kannada is believed to have evolved from the Brahmi script. It has evolved from the Bhattiprolu script is a variant of the Brahmi script of Ashoka’s time. Kannada has borrowed vocabulary from Sanskrit in terms of vocabulary, grammar and literary styles like other indian languages.
